Introduction

Babacord is the unofficial (but developer sanctioned) community discord for innovative indie puzzle game Baba Is You. It features many pages dedicated to the game, things semi-related to the game, and a good few community "nonsense" channels. Also, each channel and category is named as if it were a valid Baba Is You rule. The userbase is decidedly younger on average than the median active witscorder's age, including their moderation team. We sometime refer to them as "Babarians" as a joke, but they are generally well meaning and progressively minded, if not quite as openly and thoroughly political as we can be. Again, it is a community discord, and it has maybe a few hundred active members (>11k total members at time of writing).

In this article I will cover what are, in my eyes, the main "categories" of channel in the server. Though the server labels and groups them differently, it is where I have personally seen the most user stratification. If that makes sense, anyway. I offer this to you as I have an active dual-citizenship with both servers.

Baba Is You

These are the channels dedicated to discussion of the game itself, from vanilla and DLC hints, to custom level sharing, to insane mods which make the game even more of a spaghetti jank fest than it is already. In general, babacorders are more pruzzed than a typical witscorder. This may be attributable to the relative complexities of the subject matter of each server, The Witness being much minimaler (more minimal? less maximal?) than BIY.

These channels comprise most of the physical space of the server's channel list.

Penpa

Literally one channel, #paper-has-puzzle, a channel dedicated (usually) to paper puzzles, though fairly often witness puzzles and other rule deduction will happen, as in our own #custom-panels channel. Some of the puzzles posted are not paper puzzles at all, and even a few riddles slip through the cracks. Hempuli himself has been seen posting a few genres of paper puzzle in here, as have a few other users. Ask about their beloved Tetrinonoskater, or their convoluted Christmas Tree variants.

Nerdshit

Another singular channel, though this is less contained to that channel and nerdy topics come up in a few of the other channels. The home base of such topics is #monitor-has-text, and anything from computer programming to conlang design to mathematicsposting will be found here. This is the channel users are shooed off to when the nerds clog up the general channels.

General

Everything from their own two general channels, the gaming and meme channels, the art, media, music, voice, event, and bot channels. Bunch of gay and transgender minecraft furries posting about what-have-you and what-not. It's great. Of particular note, the second general channel changes its name every so often as an ongoing bit. At time of writing, the first one is #channel-is-general, and the second is #channel-is-without-purpose, but an existing itemized list includes names such as #channel-is-general-2, #chanel-be-genral-dos, #channel-mimic-general, #channel-is-bazinga, and #channel-is-cruise-missile-alignment-chart. There are better jokes but we could be here all day.

As a last note, the bot channel hosts standard bots as pluralkit and some music bots, but a fairly sizeable group of users gravitate to only the bot channel, as it hosts a bot named ROBOT IS CHILL, which is able to generate highly advanced, animated renders of both vanilla and custom baba assets in a great array of configurations. It's essentially text based image generation software, and it even lets you generate text tiles in the Baba font. I'll have to get some images in here soon, I don't know how else to describe it, it's really something.

Final Note

Every user has create thread permissions.
